Join a presentation on the journeys of Auckland’s last steam ferry and her people. A tour of the restoration work follows.
In 55 years of commuter service on the Waitematā Harbour and excursions to the Hauraki Gulf and upper harbour, Toroa carried 70 million passengers in all, with many incidents and events along the way.
Hear the stories of owners, builders, skippers, crew, engineers, stokers and passengers. Ladies and smokers; seat-hoggers, card-players and wharf-jumpers; poets, potters and Prime Ministers; and Toroa’s latest journey to Henderson for restoration and return to the Waitematā.
We regret that there is no wheelchair access into the hull of the ferry or the presentation room. Access is by steep stairs. Please wear closed footwear. Children must be supervised by adults.
